Sports: AACI Trading, Royal Star Win Matches in Fil-Sino Caging
AACI Trading squeaked past AACI Transport, 93-92 and Royal Star Trading drub AACI Farms, 102-87 in Class A action of the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 1st Conference Inter-Color basketball tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Robbie Jalando-on scored the last 6 points for AACI Trading but had some anxious moments when he fouled a desperate 3 -point midcourt attempt by Yan Yan Dy as time expired with Trading on top, 93-91.
Dy managed to convert only one free throw, missing two others as Trading escape with the victory.
Julius Teruel scored 14 points for Trading and led at the break, 55-48, while Jalando-on shot 13 and Mark Binguan had 9. Transport Bong Palo and Dy had 10 points each.
A balance Transport offensive cut the deficit to 77-74 even as Jalando-on added 9 more points for Trading setting up the close payoff quarter encounter.
Transport grabbed the lead at 88-84, but Johann Villanueva made a triple to cut the lead to 1.
Dy scored the last 7 points for Transport and engaged Jalando-on in offense in the closing minutes of the game.
Jalando-on came out on top with a triple and a free throw for the 2 point lead, but it almost went to naught with a last second foul on Dy.
Jalando-on finished with 29 points, Julius Teruel hit 20, Mark Binguan connected on 5 treys for 15 points and Charlton Ong with 11.
Dy tallied 21 points, Palo and Bol Manaloto picked up 15 points each, Jose Miguel Montinola shot 13, while Chibon Uy and Ricky Chua made 10 points apiece.
In the other game, Marc Lo shot 10 points and Roger Montalbo sunk 3 triples for a, 27-13 Royal Star opening quarter lead.
In the second quarter Michael Ang drilled 4 triples backed up by Rey Pandoro and Kenderson Hao who made 6 points each to extend the lead to 55-31 at the break.
Ren Ren lacson and Pao Pao Lim combined for 14 points in the third canto to cut the lead to 71-57.
Lim and Ritche Militante delivered 19 points in the payoff quarter as they drew closer to 6 points, but Royal doused the rally led by Marc Lo with 11 points and Peter Paul Ortaliz added 6 points to bring the lead back to double digit.
Lo delivered a game high 25 points, Ang added 15, Montalbo and Ortaliz scored 12 points apiece, while Vincent Tan shot 10 and Hao had 9.
Lim paced the loser with 18 points, Lacson with 17, Militante 11 and Nico Lopingco 10.
Today, Fil-Sino Athletic Club will play the visiting Iloilo Filipino Chinese Basketball Association at the same venue starting at 4 pm in Class B and 6 pm for the Class A game.* (CMGarde with report from Stephen Tan)
