Sports: Oro, 3 Other Negrenses Battle for Gold in PNG
Negrense Aljhun Oro came from behind and needed an extra strength in the last round to defeat Olongapo Rex Canag, 24-23 in the 46 kilograms and will battle for the gold today against wily Joey Canoy of Davao Del Norte who stopped Ricardo Dulce in the first round in the 2012 POC-PSC Philippine National Games at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
Oro lost the first round 12-7, and catch up in the second round, 19-15 until he convinced the judges to win the bout, 24-23.
Three other Negrenses also advanced to the finals are Bago City’s bets Argie Alabado in the 49 kilograms; James Palicte in 60 kilograms and Thurshy Millena in the female’s 57 kilograms.
Alabado defeated Jene Boy Boca, 30-20 and will face Jake Bornea of General Santos City who won over Maasin John Rey De Asis; Palicte won his fight over Lloyd Trinidad of Zambales in a Referee-Stop-Contest of the second round and will face Risty Apas of Davao Del Norte who defeated Negros Occidental James Carlo Calago; while Millena dominated Kimberly Edillo of Davao Del Norte, 22-11 and will face Margie Waga, who defeated Negros Occidental Riza Pasuit, on points.
Calago, Pasuit and Jeffrey Bagacay of Bago City settled for bronze medal in their respective category.* (CMGarde)
