Events: ‘Inaction of NGCP and WESM Increase in Power Rates, Is Unacceptable and Calls for Legal Action, Cong. Ferrer says’
"The inaction on the part of National Grid of the Philippines (NGCP) and Wholesale Electric Spot Markets (WESM) in informing CENECO of the issues involving the increase in power rates, the cost of line rental and most importantly, shifting the burden of costs on the consumers, simply unacceptable and thus calls for the proper legal action should be undertaken," Congressman Jeffrey P. Ferrer of the 4th District of Negros Occidental said during the 37th Annual General Membership Assembly of CENECO held at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum Saturday.
Congressman Ferrer noted that the development in energy utilization and power cost-rates are not only the concern of consumers and suppliers, but also by our lawmakers. As such, I have filed a Resolution in the House of Representatives urging the Committee on Energy to conduct an investigation, in aid of legislation, regarding the sudden increase of electricity rates caused by the alleged congestion of the National Grid of the Philippines (NGCP) and Wholesale Electric Spot Markets (WESM) in the franchise areas of Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc., and all other cooperatives in the province of Negros Occidental and the island of Panay.
He lauded CENECO as active in seeking the lowest prices of energy from qualified suppliers as a means by which to protect its consumers through the cooperative’s performance, gauged by sound administrative and fiscal management policies to continue to improve the cooperative services. Providing adequate electric supply to 147,000 consumer members in 4 cities and 2 municipalities is a challenge for further growth and development which is of utmost importance. From a still growing cooperative, Ceneco is taking the necessary steps to avoid deficiences, maintain consumer confidence and build service performance to an optimum level.
"Let us lend our support to CENECO and give them the opportunity to accomplish their goals and our joint efforts will strengthen the cooperative in terms of leadership and management, as well as generate stronger partnerships with the consumer-members. CENECO is a cooperative—it is our cooperative." Congressman Ferrer pointed out.*
