To highlight the celebration of the 46th World’s Communications Day yesterday, May 20, the Bacolod Diocese, through Bishop Vicente Navarra, hosted the seminar on communications last Saturday, May 19, with members of the media in Bacolod.
Speakers were historian media man Modesto Sa-onoy, Fr. Deogracias Ascalon- parochial priest of EB Magalona, and Fr. Felix Pasquin, head of the Diocesan Commission on Social Communications, who officiated holy mass after the seminar, followed by the sumptuous dinner.
The focal point of the messages of the speakers focused on the theme "Silence and Word: Path of Evangelization."
Fr. Ascalon said, in silence there is clear understanding of the word being spoken of.
While Fr.Pasquin who is also Rector of the San Sebastian Cathedral emphasized in his homily that in order to be understood, there should be silence, or one must listen. Communicating is not only speaking but also listening. Media has started even during the time of Moses up to the apostles. The most effective medium of communication is the Holy Bible that the apostles have written for the whole world to read about the truth and message of God to the people.
He also likened the tourism slogan - "there is more fun in the Philippines." But Fr. Pasquin emphasized, it is more FUN in a place with a person whose spirit is of God. F for fellowship that compliments each other regardless of creed and color, because in Christ, there is no Jew, there is no Greek, or there is no distinction. U for unity- which means be a friend of everyone, in Christ you can be intimate with others. N for newness, novelty. In God and with God there is always something new in our lives.
Fr.Pasquin also deciphered the word GOD. G - through contemplation we are able to encounter God because we feel that there is special call upon us. There is unlimited call to God. In our midst of turmoil, we call God limitless. CALL is contemplating in the presence of God. A - for answer from us when God calls us, our AVAILABILITY, and tell him, Lord, here I am to answer your call. L - learning from God’s words. Learning that the ultimate source of all truth is GOD. Another L for CALL is Ilongized - LARGA NA. We are called, we learned from Jesus Christ about the kingdom of God. Do it, preach the gospel. We must flare up to spread the word. Learn to listen to the word and spread it. LARGA na!
Relative to this, the United Pentecostal Church has similar message. Pastor Jeothro Penario challenged the brethren, that we are the only ones who will minister the lost souls around us.
Wherever we are, it is our duty to do our ministry, to spread the gospel of truth about God. The only obstacle is our ownselves. If we can not win ourselves, then how could you win others? *
