Sports: Beabon, Bagroy, San Pedro, San Vicente Champions in 5th Balbagan Sports Fest

It was the first time that Barangay Bagroy in the 21-below category won the Championship trophy dominating Barangay Enclaro, the reigning and undefeated champion in basketball for more than 5 years in the just concluded 5th Balbagan Sports Festival 2012 in Binalbagan, Negros Occ.

Beabon is Champion in the Ball Club Category, Barangay San Pedro- Champion in 16-below category and Barangay San Vicente is the Champion in 12-below category. All champions received a trophy, cash prize and P 200,000.00 worth of infrastructure projects from Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro "Bebot" Mirasol.

Barangays Enclaro, Payao, Enclaro and San Teodoro were first runners-up in the 12-below category, 16-below category, 21-year-old category and Ball Club. They all received trophies and cash prizes from Vice Mayor Emmanuel I. Aranda, SBM Henry Tajonera, Chairman, Committe on Sports and Commissioner Antonio De Dios of Binalbagan Sports Association.

Barangays Payao, Canmoros and the Weekend Warriors were declared 2nd runner-up in the 12-below category, 16-below category, 21-below and Ball Club category. They all received trophies, cash prizes from Vice-Mayor Emmanuel I. Aranda, SBM Henry Tajonera, Chairman, Committee on Sports and Commissioner Antonio De Dios of Binalbagan Sports Association.

Barangays Canmoros, San Pedro and Archers were declared 3rd Runners-up in 12-below category, 16-below category, 21-below category and Ball Clubs. They all received trophies, cash prizes from Vice Mayor Aranda, SBM Tajonera and Commissioner De Dios of Binalbagan Sports Association.

Most Valuable Players were Andrei Trajera No. 3, Barangay San Vicente, 12-below category; Mark Edwin Reyes No. 16, Brgy. San Pedro in 16-below category; Negardo Celis No. 3, Brgy. Bagroy in 21-below category; Joseph Louie Pelingon, No. 94 of Beabon. They all received trophies and cash prizes.

Three Pointers were Don Alejandro Amario, No. 16 of Barangay Enclaro; Pedres, No. 3 of Brgy. Payao; Arnel Nicavera, No. 7 of Brgy. Bagroy; and Arjonel Nicavera, No. 13 of Brgy. San Teodoro. They received cash prizes as highest 3 pointers in 12-below, 16-below, 21-below and ball clubs categories.

Vice-Mayor Emmanuel I. Aranda in behalf of Mayor Alejandro Bebot Mirasol whose sister died yesterday expressed his deepest sympathy to the Mirasol family. "The Binalbagan Sports Festival 2012 is in honor of our patron saint San Vicente Labrador. We thank God Almighty for giving us more blessings and good weather throughout the year and in making this noble project successful with your whole-hearted support and cooperation. This is a physical fitness and sports development program of Binalbagan where everybody is entertained. This sports festival is now well known throughout Negros Occidental. Our Inter-town Basketball League will continue after the town fiesta celebration."

He likewise lauded the participation of Pontevedra, Hinigaran, Himamaylan City, Moises Padilla (Magallon), Binalbagan and Kabankalan City. He congratulated all the barangay captains and officials, kagawads, SKs, coaches, managers, players and the champions.

SBM Henry Tajonera also thanked all those who made the league successful despite the difficulties. Commissioner Antonio De Dios, thanked Almighty God and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to local government officials like Mayor Mirasol, Vice-Mayor Aranda, the Sangguniang Bayan members, Punong Barangays, SK officials SBM Sarah Marie Trio, BABRA, Binalbagan Sports Associations’s Gilbert Hilario, Estelita Trio, Cesar D. Javier, Othello Gestosani, Jeffrey Dizon, the team managers and athletes, sponsors, donors, for all their support.

"Aside from the Inter-Town Basketball Tournament, by December 2012 there will be an upcoming Inter-Collegiate, State Colleges & Universities Basketball Tournament to add more enjoyment and entertainment to the people of Binalbagan," Commissioner De Dios bared.*
