Business: SM Annex Design Unites Colors and Vibrance of Original Mall
The ongoing construction activities at the north wing of SM City Bacolod at the reclamation area will soon give form to the annex building as part of the
mall’s expansion plans. SM Prime Holdings, Inc., premier shopping mall developer and operator is investing P1.4 billion in the project that is set to complete in two phases within 2013 up to 2014. With the new building, extended space and added facilities, 2,000 more job are expected to be filled in two the two years that the expanded mall is completed.
Exterior Percspective
SMPHI president Hans Sy attributes the ongoing work as a tribute to the people of Bacolod and nearby areas. One of the fast emerging economies in the country, the company places its confidence in Bacolod with the commitment to provide for better retail facilities and services.
The Annex, covering 102,043 square meters of gross floor area alone, will have an updated, exciting and vibrant appearance from the street, a reflection of SM’s innovative approaches to retail. Despite this new identity, its design will still pick up from what makes the original SM Bacolod mall unique and successful. The current mall boasts of bright and bold colors, most prominent in the interior, giant sized murals that adorn its upper level walls. The vivid colors of the murals reflect what is best and treasured in the City of Smiles and the same boldness will apply in the backdrops in the exterior walls of the annex’s three entrances. Colors of the expansion will be memorable, strategically applied to focus the mall goer’s attention to the design of the structure. The whole building – both expanded area and the current mall – shall be united in splashes of color splashes yet extending the new identity.
Excitement over the expansion’s design will pick up once the structure starts taking shape. It will be a new identity for a SM City Bacolod, all the while enhancing its appeal as a destination mall since it opened in 2007.*
