Business: Pnoy Asked to Expand the Bacolod-Silay Runway
President Aquino was requested by Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano to provide funds for the expansion of the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City,
particularly its runway and terminal.Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the President had met with him and the mayors belonging to the United Negros Alliance (UNA) during his visit to Negros Occidental last Saturday.
Marañon, chairman of UNA and a supporter of Aquino, said the President had asked the mayors their respective needs and promised to address them.
Montelibano had asked the President to give funds for the expansion of Silay airport’s runway and terminal, since as of now, both facilities are congested, the governor said.
Marañon said the President vowed to check on the facilities upon his departure from the Silay airport.
A source said that Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, who accompanied the President, is still studying the expansion proposal, and has not approved it yet, contrary to reports.
Marañon had earlier brought the matter to Roxas but the governor said he knows that this will be subject to availability of government funds.* (DBDangcalan)
