One was abandoned n Brgy. Nayawan, and another one in Brgy. Lahug, all in Tapaz town in Capiz.
The camps are believed to be where the rebels manufacture improvised explosive devices (IED) which they used as land mines, that even victimized innocent civilians.
A girl in Brgy. Tacayan, Tapaz, was hit by a IED NPAs planted in March 11, 2012.
Another big blow to the NPA leadership and organization is the discovery of an abandoned camp at Sitio Cananman, Brgy. Guadalupe, San Carlos City, Friday in Negros Occ.
Troops led by Lt. Col. Rodolfo Ileto, 1st Scout Ranger Battalion commander, found the camp with 37 makeshift huts, 2 kitchens, a dining area and a latrine.
They discovered kitchen utensils, sacks of charcoal, and personal belongings like rubber shoes, pants and shirts.
It was said that that the NPAs have abandoned their camps when they sensed the arriving troops towards their place.
According to Major General Jose Mabanta, Jr., the vigilance of the citizens who report the presence of armed groups in their areas, aided in the discovery of the NPA abandoned camps.*
