Escalante City made it a double title victory when they ruled the Under-19 and Open categories of the 2012 Mambukal Relay besting other teams that started from Mambukal and ended at Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City yesterday.

The event is part of the opening activity of the week-long 2012 “19th Panaad sa Negros”.

Escalante clocked 1:30.17 to break the existing record of 1: 31.21 seconds they established last year in the same event in the Under-19 category.

Victorias City that also placed second last year (1:31.49) took the same place this time with 1:31.50 seconds clocking, Bacolod A placed third in 1:32.27. La Carlota City placed fourth (1:40.40); Calatrava is fifth (1:43.12) and Bacolod B placed sixth (1:50.50).

In the Open category, Escalante timed at 1:26.09 to win the title; Bago City at second in 1: 26.49; Himamaylan City at third in 1:30.02 seconds.

Completing the open category are; 4th-Manapla (1:33.43); 5th Victorias City (1:39.30); 6th- Bacolod Tay Tung High School A (1:42.53); 7th- Calatrava (1:43.57); 8th- Sagay (1:47.26); 9th- Bacolod Tay Tung High School B (1:48.13); 10th Murcia (2:05.54); 11th Lo Garno (2:06.47); 12thPanaad Striders (2:09.33); and 13th Runners Anonymous (2:15.11).

The top three finishers received cash prize of P8, 000 for the champion; P5, 000 for second place and P4, 000 for third place and t-shirts for all the teams that participated.

Nineteen (19) teams join the event; six in the Under-19 and 13 in the Open category that came from different Local government Units (LGUs).

The runners started at Tourist Lodge, Mambukal in Murcia to Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City with approximate distance of 27 kilometers and nine laps designated take-over zones. Each team is composed of four male and five females as regular members plus two alternates.

The Panaad Festival other road races will be a 3K run for boys’ and girls’ 14-Under and men and women 50-Up and the 5K Open category for boys’ and girls’ on April 12, 2012 starting at 6am. An open category for the Murcia-Panaad Run for boys’ and girls’ will also be held on April 14.*
