Sports: SJI Falcons Bag 2nd NOPSSCEA 10-U Football Crown
Defending champion St. John’s Institute defeated University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, 2-0, to bag the 10-Under Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural, and Educational Association football title at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) football field recently.
The game was so close that the first half ended in a nil.
At the opening of the second half, USLS-IS become aggressive but missed several opportunities to score as they broke through the defense of SJI, but the Falcons goalkeeper Nathalie Glaraga always saved the ball.
SJI responded by controlling the game, with the trio of midfielders Gino Lopez, Bethany Talbot, and Ali Arricivita that caused problems on the Stingers side.
Michael Jan Baloyo broke up USLS-IS defense working his way across the penalty box and calmly scored.
The Falcons continue to press forward relaying with Talbot to make his move for an assist to Paolo Go for the second goal inside the penalty box.
