Sports: Iloilo Quartet Sets New Meet Records in WVRAA
Iloilo quartet in both the elementary boys and girls’ with secondary boys reset the regional meet records of 4 X 40 meter relay at the close of the 2012 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium oval in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City Friday.
The elementary quartet of Ronald Lacson, Ronel Aberca, Jason Fernandez and CJ Francis Tobongbanua clocked 04:00.55 seconds to erase the WVRAA record in the event of 04:02.72 seconds set in 2009 in Capiz by Iloilo runners. It was, however, too far to the Palarong Pambansa record of 03:42.50 seconds established by Western Mindanao in the 1997 Palarong Pambansa in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
In elementary girls, the Iloilo quartet of Chenie Narisma, Pamela Marquellero, Ezel Divinagracia and Jobelle Posadas set a new regional meet record (04:22.68) to eclipse the old record of (04: 25.33) set by Iloilo runners in the 2010 WVRAA in Aklan.
The secondary boys’ quartet of Julius Carl Berona, Nilcer Navarro, Von Lino Anthony Dagoon and Erwin Alameda established the new meet record of 03:30.50 seconds to eclipse the previous record of the event of 03:31.18 seconds last year in Iloilo. The Palaro record of the event is 03:23.40 seconds set by Southern Tagalog in 1993 Palarong Pambansa in Ilagan, Isabela.
Negros Occidental came second in elementary boys’ with 04:03.71 second through the quartet of Ceasar Ian Oberes, Jessie Tormis, Jr., Eliseo Cortez, Jr., and Rodrigo Delaben, Jr., was disqualified allegedly for dropping the baton. The same with Antique who were disqualified while placing fourth (04:28.01) behind Capiz (04:06.62) in elementary boys’.
They also came next to Iloilo in the elementary girls in 04:25.41 seconds; Aklan came third in 04:34.10; Guimaras (04:44.67); Capiz (04:54.47) and Antique 905:07.27).
In the secondary boys’, Negros quartet of Remark De la Cruz, Johnly Ison, Jason De los Santos and Paul Christian Celes came second in 03:32.49 seconds. Capiz came third (03:41.56); Guimaras, fourth (03:46.78) and Antique, fifth (03:52.64).
Iloilo also won the old in the secondary girls’ 4 X400 relay in 04:12.09 seconds; followed by Negros in 04:12.52 seconds; Capiz (04:15.42);Aklan (04:19.04); Guimaras 904:34.90) and Antique 904:41.35).
But the Negros runners bounced back to win the secondary girls’ 4 X 100 relay in 44.35 seconds; Iloilo (44.69); Capiz (45.69); Antique (47.85); Aklan ((47.87) and Guimaras (48.30).
Negros also won the elementary girls’ 4 X 100 relay in 54.10 seconds with the quartet of Joycie Beranio, Erica Marie Kee, Jessa Christina Artajo and Ailyn Tumbali. Iloilo came second with 54.55 seconds; Capiz (56.94); Aklan (57.07); Guimaras (58.82) and Antique (1:00.74)
Negros also won the secondary boys; 4 X 100 relay in 44.35 seconds with Remark De la Cruz, Johnly Ison, Christopher Lirazan and Alvin Saylongo. Iloilo placed second (44.69); Capiz (45.69); Antique (47.85); Aklan (47.87) and Guimaras (48.30) seconds.* (CMG)
