Local News: Landslide Areas Declare Danger Zones: 60 Are Still Missing
Regional Director Loreto Alburo of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 7, has declared the earthquake stricken landslide areas in Negros Oriental as DANGER ZONES. In his letter to Gov. Roel Degamo, he identified the DANGER ZONES as those in Sitio Bloke 2, Brgy. Solongon, La Libertad; and Sitio Ilaya, Tinayunan Beach and Sitio Pitogo, P. Zamora, in Guihulngan.
He also advised people not to venture going to the said areas as these are still unstable due to aftershocks coupled with heavy rains.
However, Col. Francisco Patrimonio, commanding officer, 302nd Infantry Brigade said, retrieval operation is going on in Brgy. Solongon, La Libertad, to recover one body. After this, they will rest temporarily until the situation becomes safer and stable.
Latest update according to Capt. Anacito Naz, civil military operation (CMO) officer, casualties and damages collated by the Army and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (PDRRMC) reveals, there were 51 dead (23 - Guihulngan, 10 - La Libertad, 9 - Jimalalud, 3-Tayasan, 3- Ayungon, 1 - Bindoy, 2 - Manjuyod, while 60 persons are still missing. Total estimated cost of damage to livestock was raised to P1.030 million.
The local governments of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental have sent relief assistance to Negros Oriental. Bacolod Cares Program continues accepting donations for additional relief assistance campaign for Negros Oriental.*
