Opinion: Tell Me Your Honors, Please?

The impeachment trial is now a “telenovela,” in the regular programs of the television. It is a tale about betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption. The chief justice is the foremost among all other actors. Supported by a cast of lawyers and our legislators. But the “show” has become dragging in time and duration. Most people are getting bored, in waiting for its conclusion. They were fed up with the orations of all legal terminologies, and the grandstanding of some congressmen and senator-judges.

The respondent was subjected to a trial by publicity, Propaganda was stimulated as if he was already guilty. There are people who defended him amidst his desolation. While others are pushing for his ultimate conviction.

If there has been a grave abuse of discretion. Amounting to lack or excess of jurisdiction. Which court shall decide to settle this legal question? It is the Supreme Court, according to our Constitution. But the impeachment court appears to be infallible. It is ready at all cost, to overcome the crucible. No powerful court could intrude into its domain. All legal maneuvers directed against it, would be in vain.

This impeachment trial has divided our nation. And diverted our attention away from our dismal situation. A clever subterfuge, to water down our economic ills and misery. With the impeachment trial, as a convenient cover story.

We are on the verge of a looming constitutional crisis. With the supreme court as the government’s nemesis. This is my humble opinion, an educated guess. If I am right or wrong, tell me your honors, please?

We are now on the crossroad in the history of our nation. Plagued by anomalies, electoral fraud and corruption. To the honorable members of the impeachment court. This is our humble plea and not a retort. We appeal to your conscience and moral conviction. May your verdict be a fountain of reason.

The trust we had reposed upon you, as senator-judges, is firm and indestructible as the rock of the ages. We pray for your prudent and wise decision. That is free and undeterred by any political consideration.
This could be one of our bright and shining moment. The fulfillment of our hope and deepest sentiment. That no matter how one, is powerful and mighty. The sword of justice shall fall with equal certainty.

The dawn is breaking with a new beginning. For a bright tomorrow with the sunlight shining. May peace and justice shall reign in our beloved land. On the bedrock of freedom we shall proudly stand. May the voice of the people shall be supreme. Which has always been our most cherished dream. If this dream would become a concrete reality. We shall restore freedom, honor and dignity.

We only hope that this impeachment trial will not turn into some kind of a circus or an urban carnival. Tainted by intrigues, treachery, political vendetta and survival. We pray that our dreadful anticipation will not come into realization. For it would be a disgrace to the glorious memory of this nation.

We hope that in the end, what shall prevail would be justice with impartiality, dispensed in fairness and equity. This will be a noble-worthy legacy to the Filipino people of today, tomorrow and posterity. I rest my case, with all humility. In the name of the Most Sovereign Judge, our God Almighty.*
