After two days of tough competitions, the squads from Busay, Rawran, Bo. Concepcion and the Panton Football Team claimed the crowns of the just-concluded Mayor Doc Eric 7-Aside City Football Festival simultaneously played last Feb. 9-10 at the Carlos Hilado Memorial Stage College and Talisay City football pitches.

In the 10-Under category, the young booters from the Busay squad prevailed as they claimed the age-group crown as teams from Mapalaron and Pugad-B settled first and second runner-ups, respectively.
Likewise, a Busay squad took the Under-13 Ladies title while the Tapazeros and Pugad-B finished first and second runner-ups, separately.

Meanwhile, Rawran bagged the honors in the 13-Under category as Gareta finishing first runner-up followed by Mapalaron which ended second runner-up.

In the Men’s Open, Panton FT grabbed the title as Central FT and Rizal-Open FT settled first and second runner-ups, respectively.

On the other hand, during the opening of the 2-day Doc Eric National Football Festival last Saturday at the Talisay City football ground, Talisay City Mayor Dr. Eric Saratan stressed that with the series of football festivals and tournaments held in his city, they had able to scout young talents that they they believed will bring honor not only for Talisay but to the country.

“With our football program, we had able to identify football talents as young as 6 to 8 years old to be part of our poll of players for the city. We know that other LGUs have similar program like ours but it doesn’t matter as long as it will further develop the sports bof football in the province,” Saratan said.

Aside from the Negros-based teams joining the weekend’s event, also seeing action as of press time is the visiting team from Barotac Nuevo. Barotac is one of the country’s top producer of Philippines’ top football stars like Azkals’ co-skipper Emilio ‘Chieffy’ Caligdong, Ian Aranet, Roel Gener and Yanti Bersales, among others.* (JGToga/SCOOP-Bacolod)
